Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that left a teenager critically injured in Logan Square last night. It’s the second shooting reported in the immediate area since Thursday.
At about 5:10 p.m., 911 callers reported shots fired in the 1600 block of North Washtenaw and a witness told police that a black sedan sped away west on North Avenue after someone fired shots from the front passenger seat.
Minutes later, a 17-year-old walked into St. Mary’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. He told investigators he had been walking on the sidewalk when he heard gunfire. CPD said he was in critical condition. Officers recovered approximately nine shell casings near Wabansia and Washtenaw.
The shooting may give CWBChicago readers a sense of déjà vu.
On Thursday night, a 27-year-old man walked into St. Mary’s Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, reporting that he was shot while walking near Wabansia and Rockwell, one block from last night’s shooting.
At the time, a Chicago police media statement said the shooting occurred in Bucktown in the 1700 block of West Wabansia, several blocks east of where the victim said it did. However, city crime records have since been updated to reflect that it occurred in the 1700 block of North Rockwell, consistent with his original statement.
No arrests have been announced in either shooting.
