Chicago police are warning business owners after a man armed with a handgun tried to rob two businesses and successfully robbed another in three different neighborhoods this month.

According to CPD, the gunman, who struck in Brighton Park, Jefferson Park, and Bucktown, displayed a black handgun and demanded cash from employees, with mixed results.

The crimes began just after 5 a.m. on August 9 when he entered a Subway restaurant at 3924 South Archer Avenue and announced a robbery. The attempt failed because of a language barrier with the employee.

Ten days later, at 11:50 a.m. on August 19, the same man tried to rob a 7-Eleven at 6000 West Higgins Avenue in Jefferson Park. He left empty-handed.

Less than two hours later, CPD said, he succeeded. At 1:38 p.m. on August 19, he entered 7-Eleven at 2010 North Damen Avenue in Bucktown and handed an employee a note that read “Give me all the money” while displaying a handgun. The worker complied, and the man fled with cash.

Police described the robber as a Hispanic male, 20 to 30 years old, standing 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and weighing about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a beige baseball cap, either a blue camouflage hoodie or a black White Sox hoodie, a cross-body bag, black cargo pants, and black gym shoes.
