‘Make a noise so police can find you’: Victim’s 911 call led cops to rapist, prosecutors say

A 35-year-old man accused of luring a teenager from a South Side gas station and raping her in his garage while she cried for help on a live 911 call has been ordered detained pending trial.

Prosecutors say Jarad DeYoung crossed paths with the 19-year-old victim late on July 24 at a gas station in the 9400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue and offered her a ride home.

After entering a car with DeYoung, a female driver, and another male passenger, the teen changed her mind and said she wanted to leave. Instead of letting her out, Assistant State’s Attorney Christine Senger said, DeYoung held her door closed to keep her from leaving.

When they arrived at DeYoung’s home in the 9400 block of South Maryland Avenue, he pulled her into his yard, locked the gate, and dragged her into his garage and sexually assaulted her, Senger said.

The woman called 911 while she was being assaulted, Senger said.

“She is heard crying and screaming for the defendant to stop,” according to Senger. She said a dispatcher urged the woman to make a noise so responding officers could find her.

The 911 call recording allegedly captured DeYoung telling the woman, “You’re going to have my baby,” while the victim begged him to stop.

Police arrived within minutes, finding the teen walking with DeYoung. She walked toward the officers, pointed at DeYoung, and said he had raped her, according to Senger. The cops arrested him immediately.

The victim was taken to Trinity Hospital for a sexual assault exam, and police secured gas station video showing the teen meeting DeYoung.

Senger added that DeYoung was already on pretrial release for another case, and he has prior convictions for armed robbery, residential burglary, and narcotics.

Defense attorney Jaclyn McAllister asked Judge James Costell to put DeYoung on electronic monitoring instead of in jail while the case is pending. She said he lives with his mom, has one child, and works in a factory.

Costello was not persuaded.

“This defendant is absolutely a threat,” Costello said from the bench. “[He] approached a random 19-year-old girl at a gas station…forced her to his garage and then forcefully raped her.”

He ordered DeYoung jailed pending trial.
