Man shot while walking in Edgewater

A 49-year-old man was wounded Saturday night in Edgewater after someone fired shots, shattering glass at a bus stop and scattering shell casings across the street.

The shooting occurred around 9:14 p.m. in the 5300 block of North Sheridan Road, according to Chicago police. Witnesses told officers they saw a group of males running west from the park toward Sheridan just before hearing gunfire. A bullet struck the shoulder of a 49-year-old man who was walking in the area. He told police he heard males arguing before the shooting.

Police said the victim was unable to provide further details about the shooters. Witnesses reported seeing a group of men head north on Sheridan after the shooting.

The victim is the eleventh person shot in Edgewater so far this year. By mid-August last year, the neighborhood had seen 13 shooting victims. There were four at this point in 2023, and nine in 2022.
