A hit-and-run driver killed a 27-year-old woman as she made an Uber Eats delivery in Austin with her young son strapped into her car just steps away, prosecutors say. Now, nearly two years later, charges have finally been filed.
Around 5:45 p.m. on January 27, 2023, Jennifer Kelleher of Brookfield parked in the 5000 block of West Washington to make a delivery with her almost 2-year-old son secured in the back seat.
As soon as Kelleher stepped out of her car, 48-year-old Lydale Durr barreled down the street in his wife’s 2012 Buick, prosecutors said. Security video allegedly shows he never slowed down. The impact threw Kelleher into the opposite traffic lane, where another car struck her as well.
Paramedics rushed Kelleher to Stroger Hospital, but she was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Prosecutors said Durr drove away and tried to hide the Buick in an alley, but police eventually found it. A CPD report said his driver’s license had been revoked since January 2002.
Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. ordered Durr detained, citing a criminal record that includes multiple felonies and driving-related convictions. He now faces charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
