Man killed woman, set her body on fire, then sexually assaulted another victim the same day: police

A four-time convicted felon has been charged with murdering a woman whose remains were discovered inside a burning garage this week and then sexually assaulting another woman within hours, according to Chicago police.

Gregory Hudson, 65, is accused of killing a 36-year-old woman, stuffing her body into a bag and placing it inside a vacant garage, which he set ablaze in the 6500 block of South Damen Avenue last Thursday. CFD extinguished the fire and found the remains, police said.

An autopsy later determined the slain woman had been shot multiple times before her body was set on fire, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Witnesses told detectives they saw a man pull up in a vehicle, dump a bag, pour some kind of liquid in front of the garage, and then drive off. Residents gave police a description of the getaway vehicle, which investigators used to track down Hudson later the same day, authorities said.

When cops located the car later in the 700 block of West 113th Street that evening, Hudson was inside the vehicle with another woman. Police said Hudson had kidnapped the woman and sexually assaulted her after murdering the first victim in her presence.

Hudson is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing this afternoon. He is charged with first-degree murder, concealing a homicidal death, aggravated armed kidnapping, arson, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a firearm. CPD said he has prior convictions for burglary, armed robbery, and armed violence.
