A 23-year-old man survived a daylight shooting in Albany Park on Monday, marking the fifth person struck by gunfire in the neighborhood this year, according to Chicago police.
The shooting happened around 4:20 p.m. in the 4900 block of North Kedzie Avenue as the victim traveled in a vehicle. Police said someone opened fire, hitting him once in the upper chest.
Responding officers applied a chest seal, a bandage designed to help prevent air from entering the chest cavity through a gunshot wound, before paramedics took him to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. He was reported to be in good condition.
The victim told police he did not see who fired the shots, and no one is in custody. CPD did not release additional details about the gunman or the possible motive.
This year’s shooting total in Albany Park is quite low compared to recent years. There were 17 victims by this point in 2024, 10 in 2023, and 26 in 2022.
