Downtown aldermen warn residents to prepare for Mexican Independence Day
Downtown aldermen are warning residents and workers to prepare for street closures and “unsanctioned celebrations” tied to Mexican Independence Day this weekend. Car caravans have snarled traffic in past years, with 69 arrests made last year. Police may require “access passes” at checkpoints to enter downtown. With the cancellation of the sanctioned El Grito event, officials fear this year could be even more disruptive.
