It’s been three years since Hector Negron was killed after getting caught in the crossfire of two gunmen in West Town. Now, Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information that helps police solve the case.

Negron, a father of five, was working as a tow truck driver and had just completed an assignment when he drove west on the 1900 block of West Fulton Street around 10:40 p.m. on November 13, 2022.

Chicago police said the occupants of two cars were firing at each other as they chased one another through the area. At least one of those rounds struck Negron in the side, causing him to crash into a bus stop near Damen Avenue, officials said. Negron, 49, later succumbed to his injuries.

Last December, CPD released surveillance video showing some of the people and vehicles investigators believe were involved in the shooting.

“We need the community’s help,” said Paul Rutherford, Executive Director of Cook County Crime Stoppers. “Someone out there knows what happened. Crime Stoppers allows you to do the right thing while staying completely anonymous. Your information could help bring justice and prevent further violence.”

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-535-STOP or email [email protected]. Anonymous tipsters receive a unique code to claim rewards if their information leads to charges.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is [email protected]
