Father and son murdered during robbery in Little Village; $10K reward offered

Chicago police are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a father and son during a robbery at a Little Village jewelry store on Saturday evening. Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the shooter’s arrest.

Officers were called to the 3800 block of West 26th Street around 5:49 p.m. after several 911 callers reported seeing men shooting at each other in the street and the victims lying on the ground.

Responding units found two men, ages 63 and 25, critically wounded on the side of 26th Street. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Investigators said it all started when a man entered the family’s business, displayed a gun, and demanded property. After taking items, the robber stepped outside and got into a struggle with the victims.

He then fired multiple shots, striking both men before running to a white SUV and fleeing south on Springfield Avenue, CPD said.

Officers recovered about a dozen shell casings and jewelry at the scene, according to preliminary information.

In a statement Sunday, Cook County Crime Stoppers Executive Director Paul Rutherford called the case “a senseless act of violence.”

“Two hardworking individuals lost their lives,” Rutherford said. “We’re asking anyone who knows something to do the right thing. Even the smallest detail could be the key to solving this case.”

Crime Stoppers is now offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest or indictment in the case. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-535-STOP or emailing [email protected]. Anonymous tipsters will be given a code number to claim the reward if their information proves valuable.
