A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed with rifle fire in Wicker Park overnight.
Officers responded to calls of shots fired in the 1500 block of North Honore Street around 1:47 a.m. and found the victim in an alley near North Avenue.
He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told officers they saw a red SUV speeding out of the alley after the shooting. Police found four shell casings from rifle rounds at the scene.
The victim is the second person shot in Wicker Park and Bucktown this year. The only other shooting occurred in the 2200 block of West Cortland Street on June 28.
That number marks a reduction in shootings for the neighborhood. By date this last year, three people had been shot in Wicker Park and Bucktown. There were nine victims at this point in 2023, six in 2022, and nine in 2021.
Editor’s note: It was originally believed that the first shooting of 2025 in all of Chicago occurred in the neighborhood, but police later determined that the individual who was shot provided incorrect information to police.
