Armed carjacking crew has struck from Goose Island to South Shore, CPD says

Chicago police are warning about an armed robbery and carjacking crew that has struck multiple times this month throughout the city. Investigators are linking at least six incidents in South Chicago, Goose Island, West Town, Auburn Gresham, and Grand Crossing to the group.

Police said four or five males wearing dark-colored clothing and ski masks have been exiting a stolen vehicle with handguns to confront victims on the street. They robbed victims of vehicles and valuables.

Four of the incidents occurred on January 3: in the 1900 block of East 80th Street at 2:07 a.m.; in the 1500 block of North Kingsbury Street at 3:20 a.m.; in the 1000 block of North Ashland Avenue at 3:30 a.m.; and in the 8100 block of South Elizabeth Street at 10:35 p.m.

On January 6, the crew targeted a victim in the 500 block of West 81st Street, also in Auburn Gresham, at 1:40 a.m.

Most recently, they robbed a victim at 4:32 a.m. on January 7 in the 1500 block of East 79th Street in Grand Crossing.

Police described the suspects as four to five Black males between the ages of 16 and 25, all wearing dark clothing and ski masks. The group used a white Hyundai Elantra in four of the incidents and a white Kia sedan in two of them. Both vehicles had been reported stolen, police said.
