Two men were stabbed while riding a CTA train on the South Side overnight, the latest in a string of violent attacks targeting riders across the city’s train system.
CPD responded to the 47th Street Red Line station around 1:26 a.m. after a male assailant approached the two male victims aboard a train car and got into a verbal argument, according to a police statement. During the altercation, the attacker pulled a sharp object and stabbed both men in their necks, police said.
EMS took the victims to the University of Chicago Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition. Their ages have not been released. CPD did not release a description of the assailant or say where he went.
At least four other people have been stabbed on the CTA train system over the past two weeks:
- A 30-year-old man was stabbed at the Western Blue Line station in Bucktown early Saturday morning after an argument on the platform escalated into a physical attack, police said. Officers responded to the station at 1909 North Western Avenue around 12:20 a.m. after the victim got into an argument with an unknown man. The offender pulled out a sharp object, stabbed the victim in the left hand and fled the station on foot, according to police. The victim was listed in good condition at Stroger Hospital.
- On March 14, two women were stabbed while riding a Brown Line train in the Loop. Police said the women, ages 43 and 23, got into a fight with another woman on the Clark-Lake platform around 7:52 p.m. The confrontation moved onto a train, where the assailant allegedly attacked the pair a second time, cutting the older woman on the arm and the younger woman on the hand.
- On March 12, a 37-year-old man was stabbed while waiting on the northbound platform of the Grand Red Line station in River North, at 521 North State Street. Just before midnight, a man walked up to the victim and stabbed him in the left tricep without warning, according to police.
