Gunmen fire dozens of shots in the West Loop, striking homeless man in the foot

At least four masked gunmen jumped out of a vehicle and opened fire outside a West Loop corner Sunday morning, spraying 30 to 40 rounds outside restaurant that was closed at the time and wounding a 20-year-old homeless man who was asleep nearby.

Chicago police said a gray Dodge Durango pulled up to the intersection of Fulton Market and Racine Avenue at 6:47 a.m. and four men climbed out carrying guns, including a rifle. The group, dressed in all-black clothing and ski masks, opened fire toward a restaurant that was not open for business, witnesses said. After unloading the barrage, they got back in the vehicle and drove off, heading east on Fulton.

The homeless man told police he was sleeping outside when he woke up during the shooting and realized he had been struck in the left foot, according to a preliminary CPD report. He is from Minnesota and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

The shooters were described as Black males wearing all-black clothing and ski masks. Some witnesses told police the crew fled in a Dodge Charger, but CPD issued a statement saying the vehicle was a Durango.
