Chicago police are asking for the public’s help identifying four men caught on camera near the scene of a daylight double murder that shattered the usual calm of a Northwest Side block last week.
Anthony Ozuna, 18, and Carlos Miguel Degante, 19, were killed around 3:30 p.m. on June 25 in the 7800 block of West Cahill Terrace, a residential block so quiet that city records show fewer than 130 crimes logged there over the past 25 years, and none at all since December 27.
Police initially said the two men were found “in the rear of a residence” on Cahill Terrace. Officials have since said the shooting actually occurred in the 7800 block of Forest Preserve Avenue, the street running behind the homes. Video obtained by CWB Chicago shows the men lying just off Forest Preserve Drive, a busy four-lane road, in plain view of passing traffic.
Investigators recovered rifle casings and a firearm from the scene. Multiple witnesses reported seeing people running from the area right after the gunfire, though police have not said whether any of them are considered suspects. After reviewing surveillance video, detectives have now identified four men they want to speak with in connection with the killings. Police on Thursday described them as:
- A male wearing a dark hooded top with a stripe and dark pants
- A Hispanic male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and white shoes
- A Hispanic male wearing a white tank top, dark pants, and white shoes
- A Black male wearing a white top
