Chicago police are again warning Northwest Side businesses and residents about a man suspected of robbing store cashiers in a string of holdups dating back to July 31. It is the third community alert CPD has issued about the man since August 16, but the first to include images of the suspect. Despite the repeated warnings, police say he has continued to strike, with three more robberies reported in the past week.

According to police, the man enters stores and selects a canned drink from the shelves. He then takes the item to the register and hands the cashier money to pay for it. When the cashier opens the register, the man pulls out a large knife, reaches over the counter, and takes cash from the drawer, police said.

CPD released video of one of the incidents Monday. The knife can be seen in the footage and appears to have a large blade. Police have linked him to seven robberies at Northwest Side stores since July 31. Two locations have been targeted twice:

• 3400 block of West Belmont Avenue on July 31 and August 6
• 3200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue on August 11 and August 22
• 4700 block of West Belmont Avenue on August 15
• 4000 block of West Irving Park Road on August 19
• 3300 block of West Fullerton Avenue on August 23

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or the robberies to contact Area Five detectives at 312-746-6554. Anonymous tips can be submitted through CPD’s tip website at CPDTIP.com. Tipsters should refer to crime pattern #P26-5-12A.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
