Video shows shootout that left 1 dead and 1 injured on a downtown Chicago parking lot

Video has emerged that clearly shows a double-shooting in the Loop that left one man dead early Saturday. And, CWBChicago has learned that police were working to determine if a stabbing at a nearby L station was related to the shooting.

Deontae Winfrey, 29, was killed, and a 23-year-old man was injured during the shooting in a parking lot in the 400 block of South Clark around 3:20 a.m., Chicago police said.

A surveillance video posted by HeyJackass.com, a site that independently compiles Chicago crime statistics, shows the shooting unfolding. The video is, as you might expect, difficult to watch:

According to the video, the gunshot victim who survived (on the right) also fired a gun during the shootout. Other shooters dragged him away after unleashing a hail of bullets on Winfrey as he lay on the ground.

Shortly before 7 a.m., Chicago police responded to calls of a person stabbed at the Van Buren CTA station. They found a man at 19 West Jackson who had a stab wound to his back. The officers took a suspect into custody, and the initial indications were that the stabbing occurred during a fight related to the earlier shooting.

No charges have been announced in the shooting or stabbing cases.

So far this year, 24 people have been shot in the Loop, up from 18 at this point last year, ten as of this date in 2020, and four victims in all of 2019, according to records maintained by CWBChicago.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
