CHICAGO — A suspect is in custody after two people were shot at the Roosevelt Red Line station in the Loop on Saturday night, Chicago police said.
Shortly after 10 p.m., two men were “causing a disturbance” on a stationary Red Line train when another man fired shots, according to a CPD media statement.
A 25-year-old man was critically injured, suffering gunshot wounds throughout his body, police said. He was found on a CTA train car, not far from several shell casings.
The other man, 20, was found on the station’s mezzanine level. He is in good condition, with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.
CPD officers were already at the station when the shooting occurred. Police officers located the suspect on a Green Line train at Roosevelt.
A video posted to Twitter by Emjay Phan showed officers flooding the already-crowded Green Line platform and quickly escorting a man from the area in handcuffs. Watch:

Police, who said a firearm was recovered, described the man as a “person of interest” who is being questioned.
The victims are the 14th and 15th people shot in the Loop this year, down significantly from the 38 victims seen as of December 16, 2022. Last year’s total includes 13 victims who were shot in or near the 400 block of South Wells during a string of shootings that local residents and police linked to a now-shuttered nightclub.
Still, the Loop continues to see far more shootings than before the pandemic. Only five people were shot in the neighborhood in 2019, and two of those shootings were determined to be self-defense.
The number of shootings increased to 18 in 2020 and 29 in 2021.
