CHICAGO — The man accused of dragging a Chicago police officer with his car during a traffic stop in Lakeview has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Cops pulled Terrelle Bailey over in the 3200 block of North Sheffield for reckless driving in October 2022. Prosecutors said he threw the Range Rover into reverse when an officer asked him to step out.
The vehicle dragged the officer, who was leaning into the driver’s side. He suffered injuries to his neck, shoulder, and arm, prosecutors said.
Bailey’s SUV backed into a Chrysler 300 and then hit a CPD squad car before slamming into a Lexus and a Cadillac parked nearby, a Chicago police crash report said.

He ran from the crash and hopped into a construction site along the L tracks north of the Belmont CTA station. Cops found him, but a second officer suffered a dislocated elbow while trying to climb the fence to get to him, according to prosecutors.
Officers found a loaded handgun inside a storage panel on the driver’s door of Bailey’s car.
Last week, Bailey pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of a peace officer and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in a vehicle with a previous conviction. Judge Michael Hood sentenced him to 6 years on each count, to be served concurrently, according to court records.
Bailey, initially charged under the alias “Michael Franklin,” will receive a 50% sentence reduction for good behavior and another 161 days of credit earned since being arrested.
