Chicago police are warning about burglars who are breaking into restaurants to steal cash registers and money during overnight hours. Nearly all of the crimes occurred in River North.
During each break-in, one or two men entered a restaurant by prying open a patio door, according to CPD. The prowlers ransack the business, take cash, and haul away the registers.
Detectives linked six recent restaurant burglaries to the crime pattern: on December 19 in the 700 block of North Wells and the 500 block of North Clark; in the 800 block of North State on December 20; on Christmas in the first block of West Kinzie and the 1500 block of North Wells; and in the 600 block of North Franklin on December 26.
They said the burglars are Black men between 30 and 35 years old who stand 5’6″ to 5’8″ tall and weigh 160 to 170 pounds.
