CHICAGO — One of the victims who was shot near Oak Street Beach on Wednesday evening has died. Orlando Duran of the 3000 block of West 41st Street succumbed to his injuries at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Friday afternoon. He was 20 years old.

He was among four people heading north on Lake Shore Drive in a Dodge Durango when a gunman fired shots toward them around 9:09 p.m. Surveillance video showed the shooter firing from a light-colored Chrysler 300 that pulled next to the SUV as the cars neared Oak Street.

Duran suffered a gunshot wound to his head. Chicago police officers administered CPR and took other lifesaving measures, but his injuries were too severe to overcome.

A 21-year-old woman riding in the SUV suffered a gunshot wound to her left calf. She was said to be in good condition.

Duran is the second person murdered on the Near North Side this year.

Deonvelle Keith, 34, was shot and killed outside an Old Town grocery store early on June 22. Police responding to a call of a person shot found Keith lying on the ground near Jewel-Osco, 424 West Division, with multiple gunshot wounds.

No arrests have been announced in connection with Keith’s death or this week’s shooting on Lake Shore Drive.
