CHICAGO — Investigators on Thursday released surveillance images of the man they believe killed two of his former co-workers at Navy Pier on Tuesday afternoon. Within three hours, he turned himself in.
A CPD spokesperson confirmed that a “person of interest” is in custody in the case, but they declined to offer further details because the investigation is ongoing.
CWBChicago has learned that the man police were looking for turned himself in at the Grand Crossing (3rd) District police station, 7040 South Cottage Grove, at 3:15 p.m.
Two men, ages 47 and 51, were fatally shot at a loading dock area on the pier at 1:17 p.m. on Tuesday, officials said. Police searched the pier and its parking garages, but detectives now believe the man escaped the area via CTA.
CPD said the man is 6’2″ tall and 230 pounds. He is believed to be a recently terminated employee of a food service operation on the pier.
Video footage showed that he walked off the pier around 1:25 p.m. and was last seen heading west on Illinois Street at McClurg Court before catching the CTA. Court records show he was convicted of armed robbery in 2008 and had a gun charge dropped in 2017.
A CPD spokesperson said the investigation is “ongoing.”
