CHICAGO — A man wanted for attempted murder on allegations he shot a man outside an Austin convenience store this summer is in custody after being stopped by police for a minor traffic violation in Alabama.

Glenn Russell, 36, was extradited to Chicago to face charges in the August 5 shooting outside In & Out Drive Thru Food Mart, 401 North Laramie.

Chicago cops responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts at the food mart around 10 o’clock that morning. They found a 22-year-old man lying on the pavement next to his 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, a CPD incident report said.

The victim told investigators he was going into the store to grab some food when he got into an argument with a stranger who fired shots at him, according to the report. He suffered two gunshot wounds to his side and two to his left foot. Police said the victim’s car was riddled with bullet holes along the driver’s side from the front of the hood to the doors.

Investigators collected video footage from the store and located CPD surveillance camera footage that showed the gunman circling the area in a car before the shooting, according to the incident report. CPD officers located and impounded the suspect vehicle later the same day.

The victim identified Russell as the gunman one week after the shooting, according to a criminal complaint. Cops tried to find Russell throughout Chicagoland but eventually determined that he was out of state, according to his arrest report.

Detectives secured an extradition warrant for Russell on October 11. Police in Alabama arrested him during a traffic stop on October 30.

Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman ordered Russell jailed until he can attend a detention hearing next week.
