CHICAGO — A suburban Chicago man accused of shooting at another driver during a road rage altercation on the Kennedy Expressway received a 12-year sentence on Wednesday.
William Wesley, 30, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and received the prison term from Judge Domenica Stephenson, according to court records.
Early on September 3, 2023, a 47-year-old woman was driving on the outbound Kennedy near Division Street when she got into a conflict with another driver. The woman told investigators that she continued driving, then heard about eight gunshots and saw a man shooting at her from a white sedan driven by another woman. The victim exited at Belmont and called for help.
State troopers said they found seven bullet holes along the passenger side of her car and another bullet hole on the tailgate. They used license plate readers to identify the vehicle that the gunman shot from and located it a short time later on the outbound Dan Ryan near 63rd Street, an Illinois State Police report said.
Troopers pulled the car over and detained Wesley and two women who were also in the vehicle. The ISP report said Wesley admitted to firing several rounds at the woman’s car.
Prosecutors dropped eight felonies in their plea deal with Wesley, including attempted murder, armed habitual criminal, and aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle.
