CHICAGO — A suburban man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting another man during a road rage altercation in Logan Square last autumn. He is the second person this month to face charges for attacking another driver during road rage incidents in Logan Square. There is no connection between the two cases.
The shooting occurred around 3:15 a.m. on November 19 in the 1900 block of North California.
In a Chicago police report, investigators said Garcia “developed road rage due to the way [the victim] stopped.” Garcia then confronted the man, whose age is listed in various documents as 29, 32, and 35.
“You wanna get shot?” Garcia allegedly asked the victim. “You wanna die tonight?
He proceeded to shoot the victim in the upper right leg, officials claim.
A U.S. Marshals Fugitive Taskforce arrested Garcia at his home on Friday. He is now jailed by order of Judge William Fahy, who noted in a written detention order that Garcia is a three-time convicted felon.
Earlier this month, prosecutors charged a Franklin Park man with badly beating another man during a road rage confrontation in Logan Square on December 19.
Dylan Berrio, 25, nearly drove head-on into the victim’s car in the 2600 block of North Milwaukee around 4:30 a.m., prosecutors said. He allegedly got out of his car with a metal baseball bat and attacked the other driver.
The victim, 37, “suffered broken bones, permanent disfigurement, and has to go through ongoing surgery, Judge Ankur Srivastava said in the detention order that is keeping Berrio in jail pending trial.
While the victim initially declined medical attention, he later sought help and learned that he had suffered a broken nose and shattered cartilage in his nose, which would require surgery and result in permanent disfigurement, officials said.
He is charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery in a public place.
