Man lured 2 victims into robbery traps at his home — while on house arrest for a machine gun case, prosecutors say

Christopher Anderson (Chicago Police Department)

CHICAGO — Christopher Anderson has been wearing an ankle monitor since Chicago police allegedly caught him with a machine gun on the West Side, leading a judge to put him on house arrest with an ankle monitor.

But that didn’t stop him from luring victims to his house so he and a group of accomplices could rob them at gunpoint, prosecutors now say.

On November 27 and again on December 14, men reported being robbed in the 400 block of South Laramie, one directly next door to Anderson’s home and another in front of his house, according to court filings.

Officials said someone was using Instagram to lure the victims to the area. The first victim, a concealed carry license holder, was robbed of an iPhone, Coach bag, Coach wallet, Canada Goose coat, and his firearms licenses, a criminal complaint said. Anderson also transferred $1,667 of the man’s money to himself via CashApp, according to the complaint.

In the second case, the victim was robbed of a Nike track jacket, Nike track pants, Canada Goose skull cap, iPhone, and $79 cash, according to a second complaint.

The victims identified Anderson in photo lineups and on social media, officials said. Judge Ankur Srivastava detained Anderson, saying police found “incriminating messages” and discussions about the robberies on Anderson’s phone.

Back in August, prosecutors asked Judge David Kelly to keep Anderson in jail after Chicago cops allegedly saw him place a handgun equipped with an automatic gunfire switch and an extended magazine in the engine well of a car.

Kelly, who rejects more petitions than any other judge in the court’s Pretrial Division, declined the detention petition and sent Anderson home on the ankle monitor instead.
