2 in custody after carjackers took vehicle with a woman and baby inside, Chicago police say

CHICAGO — Two suspects are in custody after a woman and a 1-year-old girl were carjacked outside a post office in downtown Chicago on Tuesday afternoon. It happened in the 400 block of West Harrison around 2:30 p.m.

The woman’s husband left her and the child in their 2019 Toyota while he ran inside to mail something, according to preliminary information. When he came back outside, his car, the woman, and the baby were gone.

A Chicago police spokesperson said the victims were in the car’s back seat when two hijackers slid into the front seat and drove away. The hijackers displayed two guns and forced the woman and baby from the car when they reached Harrison and Paulina, according to CPD. They were not injured.

Police located the car and arrested the hijackers shortly afterward in the 3500 block of South King Drive, the police spokesperson said. Charges were pending on Wednesday morning.
