CHICAGO — The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is back with another round of six-figure reward offerings as the agency continues its quest to eradicate mail thieves.
On Wednesday, postal inspectors announced $100,000 rewards for information leading them to arrest and convict two accomplices who’ve been stealing mail from buildings across Chicago. That’s $100,000 for each man. Not bad.
While the agency did not specify which neighborhoods the men have been working in, it did refer to the pair as “accomplices,” which indicates that they are working together.
Tips can be shared with postal inspectors by calling 877-876-2455 and referring to case 4315597.
This week’s rewards are the latest in a string of six-figure bounties offered by the investigators. Two weeks ago, the USPIS announced that its accountants were preparing to cut checks for tipsters who helped them track down a nine-time convicted felon who robbed a mail carrier.
Richard Thompson, 53, was on pretrial release for state burglary charges that accused him of burglarizing a U.S. Postal Service “blue box” mailbox in the West Loop when he allegedly robbed the mail carrier in the 900 block of North Francisco on November 10, 2023.
Postal inspectors offered a $150,000 reward for information that led to the robber’s arrest, and at least one tipster directed investigators to Thompson.
