CHICAGO — Prosecutors revealed new details on Wednesday about the stabbing of an emergency room doctor at Provident Hospital earlier this week. Chicago police arrested the suspect, 36-year-old Nathaniel Price, at the hospital around 1:15 p.m. on Monday.
Officials said that doctors treating Price for an infection stepped away from his room to continue their work in a nearby office area. As they were working, Price allegedly walked in with a stainless steel kitchen knife and stabbed one of the doctors in the chest and thigh. The 56-year-old physician was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.
The other doctor, 32, shoved Price against a computer setup and pushed a chair toward him so they could get away. Officials said the second doc had bruising on his chest from the altercation.
Price was taken to another hospital for a mental health evaluation and was subsequently released, a CPD report said. Prosecutors charged him with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Judge James Murphy detained him at the state’s request.
