4 years in prison for man who robbed CTA passenger 11 days after getting probation for another CTA robbery

Isaiah Turner (Chicago Police Department)

CHICAGO — A man who received probation for mugging two people on a CTA train one year ago has been shipped off to prison for robbing yet another CTA passenger just 11 days after being put on probation.

On March 17, 2024, Isaiah Turner and two juveniles implied they had a gun to rob a couple outside the Austin Blue Line station in Oak Park, officials said.

Turner pleaded guilty and received two years of probation from Judge John Wellington Wilson.

Just 11 days later, on the evening of September 7, 2024, Turner implied he had a gun as he robbed a 24-year-old woman of her purse, phone, and AirPods on a Blue Line train near the Western station on the Near West Side, officials said.

He allegedly hit the woman in the face and lifted his shirt, suggesting he had a gun.

A CTA surveillance camera operator provided police with descriptions of the suspects, and the cops spotted Turner nearby, dressed entirely in black and wearing a black ski mask, according to a Chicago police report. The officers discovered AirPods in his possession, identifying them as “Lisa’s AirPods Pro,” according to the report. The robbery victim’s first name was Lisa.

Turner has now pleaded guilty to the Western Blue Line robbery in exchange for a four-year sentence from Judge Alfredo Maldonado. With credit for 187 days spent in jail while the case was pending and the state’s standard 50% sentence reduction, he is expected to be released in September 2026.

Judge Wilson, who gave Turner probation for the Oak Park robbery, will have to decide whether Turner should now receive prison time for that case, too.
