CHICAGO — A hit-and-run driver left a pedestrian badly injured in Logan Square early Wednesday morning. The Chicago Police Department’s major accident unit is trying to find the driver.

It happened in the 3600 block of West Diversey around 2:42 a.m. CPD video footage showed the victim, 44, was walking from south to north when a westbound vehicle struck him in the crosswalk, according to a crash report, which said the driver had the green light.

The vehicle, a gray SUV with temporary plates, continued heading west on Diversey and was last seen turning south on Central Park around 2:50 a.m., the report said.

The pedestrian was found unconscious in the eastbound traffic lane. EMS took him to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. He has a major head injury, a fractured knee, and all four of his lower leg bones were broken, according to the crash report.

CPD released images of the SUV that struck the man. The department asked anyone who may have information useful to its investigation to call 312-745-4521 regarding case #JJ-203017.
