15 years for robbing a 7-Eleven while on parole for robbery

Myles Martez (Chicago Police Department)

CHICAGO — One of two men charged with committing armed robberies on the city’s North Side last year has been smacked with a 15-year prison sentence.

Myles Martez, 24, pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery before Judge Charles Burns. Martez was on parole for two 2017 armed robberies in the suburbs, for which he received a 13-year sentence, at the time of his latest crimes.

Prosecutors said Martez and David Hall, who continues to fight robbery charges, were “armed with an Uzi” when they took money and Newport cigarettes from 7-Eleven, 1404 West Pratt, on May 6, 2024.

Officials also charged Martez with trying to rob another victim on the street in the 1200 block of West Devon on May 12, 2024.

Before police arrested Martez and Hall, Area Three detectives released a community alert that linked the Devon robbery with four similar holdups reported in Rogers Park in the first half of May of last year. Ultimately, though, no charges were filed in the other cases, which were listed as “associated” investigations in CPD arrest reports for Martez and Hall.

Judge Byrnes gave Martez 15 years for the 7-Eleven and four concurrent years for the attempted robbery on Devon. Officials expect Martez to be paroled in November 2031, after serving half of his time.
