Car burglars threaten victim with gun inside West Loop garage

CHICAGO — Car burglars stole a gun from a vehicle parked in a West Loop garage and then displayed a firearm when the owner confronted them early Friday.

The 38-year-old victim saw a stranger next to his car inside the garage in the 300 block of North Green around 3:47 a.m., a CPD spokesperson said. He thought the man and about four others were breaking into vehicles, so he confronted them.

At that point, one of the burglars pointed a firearm at the man, and the group returned to a nearby silver Dodge Charger, which fled the scene, police said.

The victim discovered the inside of his vehicle had been damaged and his property, including a firearm, was missing. It is unclear if he was threatened with his own gun.

A woman who called 911 described the burglars as five Black males, with the armed man wearing a gray hoodie and having shoulder-length dreads.
