CHICAGO — A concealed carry holder got into a shootout with burglars who were breaking into his SUV in South Shore on Sunday morning, police said. The confrontation ended with the concealed carry holder hospitalized and the burglars in the wind.
The 38-year-old CCL holder saw three men breaking into his Jeep Cherokee in the 6900 block of South Crandon shortly before 5 a.m. He decided to confront them.
As it turned out, the burglars were also armed, and they began shooting at the man, who returned fire. Cops later found 16 shell casings at the scene.
Officers at the scene said the victim suffered gunshot wounds to his back and buttocks. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
The offenders were described only as three males dressed in all black and wearing ski masks. They escaped in a dark sedan, possibly a black Mazda3, which was last seen heading north on Crandon.
