17-year-old boy is charged with CTA robberies, armed carjacking

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with robbing two victims on a CTA train and carjacking a man on the West Side less than an hour later. He is the second 17-year-old to be charged with those crimes.

The teens committed the first robberies aboard a Blue Line train near the Racine stop around 9:10 p.m. on March 21. CPD said one of the robbers displayed a firearm as they took valuables from a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy.

Less than an hour later, they pulled a gun on a 57-year-old man and took his car in the 3600 block of West Grenshaw, police said.

The newly charged teenager is facing three counts of armed robbery and one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking.

Police have not released the boy’s identity due to his juvenile status.

The previously charged boy is also facing charges for two more robberies on a Blue Line train on March 13.
