CHICAGO — Three people are recovering after a drive-by gunman opened fire near the Howard CTA station in Rogers Park on Saturday evening. The assailant remains at large.

Chicago police said the 42-year-old victim was near the sidewalk in the 1600 block of West Howard when he was shot around 5:20 p.m. Surveillance video showed the gunman opening fire from a dark-colored Kia sedan and heading north on Paulina after the shooting, an officer said.

EMS took the victim to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for treatment of gunshot wounds to his arm, leg, and hip.

Later, two more victims walked into a local hospital for treatment of injuries suffered during the same shooting. Information about their ages and injuries were not immediately available.

They are the sixth, seventh, and eighth people shot in Rogers Park this year, compared to ten at this point last year. Four of last year’s victims were shot during a single incident. The year-to-date totals for other recent years:

2021: 3
2022: 7 (including 1 accidentally self-inflicted)
