One-off robberies reported in Lincoln Park, Bucktown, Logan Square

After several years of surging robbery reports, most areas of Chicago are finally enjoying a well-deserved reprieve. Across Chicago, robberies are down 37% this year compared to 2024, and areas that bore the brunt of a years-long crime surge, like West Town, are experiencing similar declines.

While CPD has handled at least three armed street robberies since Tuesday, the incidents have been spread out geographically and appear to be one-offs rather than organized sprees that were so devastating in recent years.

Most recently, a man robbed two people at gunpoint in Bucktown on Wednesday evening. A CPD spokesperson said a 23-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were in the 2100 block of North Leavitt when a man confronted them with a handgun around 8:30 p.m.

He took property from both victims and fled north, getting a wallet, purse, and about $1,500 in cash, according to initial reports. An officer who responded to the scene described him as young, Black, dressed in black clothing, and standing about 5’10” tall with a medium build.

On Tuesday evening, three masked men robbed another victim in the 2100 block of North Sedgwick in Lincoln Park. That victim reported that he was in the alley when the trio implied they had guns hidden inside their hoodie pockets and took his wallet, keys, phone, and books.

The suspects were described as Black men between 18 and 20, 5’7″ to 5’9″ tall, wearing dark clothing and masks.

Another robbery was reported in Logan Square around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A 30-year-old man told cops he was walking in the 2100 block of North Whipple when a silver sedan, possibly a Kia, pulled up. He said a man got out of the car’s passenger door, displayed a gun, and took his property, a police spokesperson said.

The robber returned to the car, which was driven by a woman, and headed south. No further description was available for the two suspects.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
