Chicago police officers shot and killed a man who moved toward them with a knife after their Tasers failed to stop his advance, CPD said Monday morning.
Officers were initially dispatched to a supportive living facility in the 1400 block of East 75th Street around 2:23 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that a resident was threatening another resident with a butcher knife.
The first units at the scene asked for back-up about 14 minutes later, but specified it was “not an emergency.” Some 13 minutes later, the officers announced on the radio that they had fired shots and they needed an ambulance for the man.
COPA, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which is charged with investigating shootings by CPD officers, responded to the scene.
CPD issued the following statement:
CHICAGO – On Monday, May 5, 2025, at approximately 2:50 a.m., Chicago Police officers responded to a call of a person with a knife threatening residents inside of a multi-unit building in the 1400 block of E. 75th St. (3rd District).
