Man stabbed friend 7 times during dispute over which TV show they’d watch: prosecutors

Sayyid Thomas (Chicago Police Department)

Prosecutors have charged a man with attempted murder, saying he repeatedly stabbed a friend during a dispute over which TV show they would watch.

Chicago police responded to an apartment in the 7700 block of South Yates around 3:30 a.m. on April 23 after a witness called 911 about the stabbing.

The cops found a 42-year-old man in the apartment who had been stabbed seven times, including three times in the back.

Officials said the witness and victim reported that Sayyid Thomas, 33, changed the channel on the TV, sparking an argument between Thomas and the victim.

The situation spiraled out of control until Thomas began stabbing the victim repeatedly, hitting him in the abdomen, leg, chest, shoulder, and buttocks.

CPD officers recently saw Thomas and took him into custody while they were on patrol, according to his arrest report.

Judge Ankur Srivastava detained him as a safety risk, saying the allegations were “so violent, brazen, and senseless” that Thomas should not be allowed to await trial at home.
