Man robbed 2 FedEx drivers while wearing an ankle monitor: prosecutors

Vincent Martin (Cook County Sheriff’s Office)

Prosecutors have charged a man with robbing two FedEx drivers earlier this year and they say his electronic monitoring bracelet GPS history proves he’s the guy.

Vincent Martin, 22, has been wearing an ankle monitor since he was charged with possessing a firearm illegally in Evergreen Park in October, according to court records.

Now, his ankle monitor is snitching on him.

Back on January 23, a FedEx driver stopped to deliver an electronics package in the 5300 block of North Magnet in Jefferson Park. As he walked to the recipient’s address, Martin approached and offered to sign for the item, prosecutors said.

When the courier refused, Martin allegedly claimed to have a gun, so the 45-year-old FedEx guy handed over the box, which reportedly contained a laptop.

Then, on February 3, another FedEx driver was robbed while making a delivery in the 1300 block of West Howard in Rogers Park. Once again, prosecutors say it was Martin who walked up to the driver, claimed to have a gun, and drove away with a package.

Prosecutors said Martin’s GPS location history shows he was at the scene of the first robbery. In the second case, detectives identified the robber’s getaway car and they say they saw Martin get out of the car two days after the holdup.

Both victims identified Martin in photo lineups.

Judge James Costello revoked Martin’s pretrial release and ordered him detained on two counts of aggravated robbery. The judge said Martin needed to stay in jail because he “has demonstrated a willingness to commit violent felonies while wearing a GPS monitor.”
