Man shot while walking in Bucktown

Update August 20: City records now indicate this shooting occurred in the 1700 block of North Rockwell in Logan Square as the victim stated, not the 1700 block of West Wabansia as stated by the police department.

A 27-year-old man was shot while walking in Bucktown on Thursday night, Chicago police said.

The man told officers he was walking north on Rockwell Street at Wabansia Avenue when he heard several shots and felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder around 11 p.m. Police later determined the shooting occurred in the 1700 block of West Wabansia.

Instead of waiting for an ambulance, the victim walked into St. Mary’s Hospital. Doctors there treated him for a gunshot wound to his right shoulder and arranged for him to be transferred to Stroger Hospital for further care. CPD described his condition as good.

He is the second person to be shot in the Wicker Park and Bucktown area so far this year. At this point in 2024, there had been three shooting victims, compared to five in 2023, six in 2022, and three in 2021.
