Guns, body armor seized in South Side apartment

A 44-year-old man is facing multiple felony charges after Chicago police and Illinois Department of Corrections agents allegedly found four loaded handguns, ammunition, and body armor in his South Side apartment.

Archie Kenerson is charged with eight counts of unlawful possession of a weapon or body armor by a felon following an IDOC “parole check” in the 2600 block of West 72nd Street.

According to a CPD report, officers and IDOC agents went to the apartment to check on a man, not Kenerson, who is on parole for aggravated domestic battery. Kenerson allegedly told the agents he had two handguns inside a pair of shoes in his bedroom.

An IDOC agent went to the room and found both guns — a loaded .380-caliber pistol and a loaded 9mm — inside the shoes, the report said. The agent also spotted two more firearms, a loaded .22-caliber pistol and another loaded 9mm, in a drawer.

Authorities said the search turned up a large blue bag containing three sets of body armor, four boxes of 9mm ammunition, a box of .22 ammunition, a Glock handgun box, and suspected cannabis. Kenerson allegedly told an agent “everything in the room” belonged to him and that he had purchased the firearms at a gun show in Indiana.

Investigators determined two of the guns were reported stolen, one from Gary, Indiana, and another from a home in Morgan Park.

Judge Luciano Panici Jr. ordered Kenerson detained. He is charged with eight counts of unlawful possession of a weapon or body armor by a felon.
