Chicago police are warning about a string of robberies in Logan Square targeting people who thought they were meeting up to sell items on Facebook Marketplace, only to be confronted by men who pulled a gun or turned violent to take the merchandise.
Since mid-July, there have been five robberies, all occurring within two neighboring blocks of Kedzie and Sawyer Avenues in Logan Square.
The robbers arranged meetings under the guise of buying electronics or other goods, police said. But once they were face-to-face with the sellers, they asked to see the merchandise and either pointed a Glock semi-automatic pistol at the victims or pushed the victims to take control of the property.
CPD said robberies occurred in the 2000 block of North Kedzie at 10:25 p.m. on July 18 and 9:20 a.m. on July 24. Three robberies have occurred in the 2000 block of North Sawyer: at 8:15 a.m. on July 29; 2:45 p.m. on August 6; and 10:29 p.m. on August 22.
Police described the suspects as two Black men, 18 to 25 years old, between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet tall, weighing 145 to 185 pounds. One has braided hair, the other a short cut.
The robberies are under investigation by Area Five detectives. Anyone with information is asked to call 312-746-7394 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com.
People arranging online sales can reduce the risk by meeting at a police station lobby.
