A woman was shot Tuesday evening while traveling in a car through Bridgeport, apparently the unintended victim of a gunman who opened fire during a confrontation nearby.

The 52-year-old woman was in the 600 block of West 31st Street around 5:20 p.m. when she suffered a graze wound to the chest. After being struck, she continued driving and pulled over in the 3000 block of South Union Avenue in her white Toyota SUV. She was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

Witnesses told police they saw a group of men confronting another man nearby. The man who was being confronted reportedly pulled out a gun and fired shots, one of which struck the woman as she passed through the area. Officers recovered two shell casings on 31st Street as part of the investigation.

Police said detectives were reviewing city and private surveillance video in the area Tuesday evening.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
