A contract worker at the Cook County Jail kitchen is facing felony charges after investigators allegedly caught her trying to bring THC-laced gummies into the facility.

Authorities say 36-year-old Ashley McCall was terminated from her job and escorted out of the jail on September 4, after investigators discovered the gummies in her purse. A field test came back positive for THC, which is banned in the jail. Investigators had received information that McCall might be smuggling the gummies inside.

McCall was taken into custody on-site and charged with bringing cannabis into a penal institution.

The incident highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to crack down on contraband at the jail, especially narcotics.
