A man who prosecutors said terrorized employees with a string of raids at Lululemon stores has been sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to two robberies and a felony retail theft at the company’s outlets.
Davenchia Lewis pleaded guilty to three crimes from August 2024 in which he targeted Lululemon locations in Lakeview and the West Loop.
The spree started August 9, 2024, when Lewis and a woman walked into the Lakeview store at 3556 North Southport Avenue and filled garbage bags with nearly $11,000 worth of merchandise. Five days later, prosecutors said, he upped the stakes by threatening workers at two more locations.
Shortly after noon on August 14, he entered the West Loop store at 932 West Randolph Street carrying a bookbag. Surveillance video allegedly showed him pulling out trash bags and stuffing them with more than $12,000 in products. When two employees confronted him, prosecutors said, Lewis threatened to shoot them. No gun was ever seen.
That evening, he returned to the Lakeview store with two accomplices. According to prosecutors, while one woman acted as lookout, Lewis and another man filled black bags with nearly $9,400 in merchandise. When an employee tried to intervene, Lewis allegedly warned, “Get away from me, I have a gun.”
Unfortunately for Lewis, Chicago police officers who reviewed surveillance footage of the incidents recognized his Chicago White Sox tattoo, which, combined with facial recognition technology, linked him to the three cases.
Judge Maria Kuriakos-Ciesil sentenced Lewis to seven years in prison on each count, to be served concurrently. With Illinois’ standard 50% reduction for good behavior and time already spent in jail, his parole date is set for February 18, 2028.
