Portage Park man fired shot through ceiling, injuring upstairs neighbor: CPD

A 21-year-old man from Portage Park is facing charges for allegedly firing a gun through his apartment ceiling Thursday night, grazing his upstairs neighbor, Chicago police said.

Officers were called to a second-floor apartment in the 4600 block of West Patterson Avenue around 9:49 p.m. for a report of shots fired inside a residential building. They found a 22-year-old man with a graze wound to the chest inside on the second floor, according to police.

Investigators said the victim directed officers to a hole in the floor, which appeared to be where the bullet entered from the unit below. Police went to the apartment beneath the victim’s and took a 21-year-old man into custody. CPD said a firearm was recovered at the scene.

The injured man decided against going to the hospital, and police said charges against the downstairs neighbor are pending.
