Man charged with slashing victim’s face near Mag Mile is supposed to be receiving mental health treatment: court docs

Daniel Mulbah (Chicago Police Department, Multiplottr)

A 21-year-old man who was placed on felony probation and ordered to undergo mental health treatment in July is now accused of slashing another man’s face near the Magnificent Mile on Thursday evening, according to Chicago police.

CPD said Daniel Mulbah, of the 2800 block of East 76th Street, approached a 30-year-old man in the 800 block of North Rush Street around 6:27 p.m. and cut the victim’s right cheek with a sharp object before fleeing. The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Officers searched the area and found Mulbah on Michigan Avenue. They took him into custody moments later on the first block of East Oak Street.

Mulbah is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor obstruction of identification. He is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing on Saturday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse, where prosecutors are expected to provide more details about the allegations.

Court records show Judge Timothy Joyce placed Mulbah on probation and ordered him to receive a mental health evaluation and treatment on July 9 after he pleaded guilty to violating a stalking no-contact order for the second time and to aggravated battery of a peace officer.

Mulbah’s prior convictions, both from 2024, stemmed from his first violation of a stalking no-contact order, for which he was sentenced to nine days of time served, and a disorderly conduct case in Lakeview that resulted in a 20-day sentence. Police initially reported that the Lakeview incident involved a knife.
