Chicago police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Friday afternoon behind a residence in the 600 block of West Division Street on the Near North Side.

Officers were dispatched around 4:31 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that their son had been shot during a robbery. When police arrived, they found the victim gravely wounded and a shell casing near the back stoop of the home. Exactly what led to the gunfire remains unclear and investigators have not confirmed whether a robbery actually occurred.
