Man opened fire at Pilsen birthday party after losing his phone: prosecutors

A man accused of shooting two guests during a late-summer birthday party in Pilsen allegedly opened fire because he was furious about not being able to find his phone, according to prosecutors.

Robert Flora, 37, was arrested on November 20 and ordered detained by Judge Luciano Panici Jr. He is charged with two counts of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm.

Prosecutors said officers responded to reports of shots fired at 1:39 a.m. on August 31 in the 1900 block of West 17th Street. They arrived to find two men, ages 41 and 45, suffering from gunshot wounds to their legs.

According to a detention petition, Flora had been at the same birthday party as the victims when he became enraged over his missing phone and “was causing trouble with at least five people.” During the confrontation, he allegedly pointed a revolver at one man’s head, lowered the weapon, and shot the man in the leg. He then turned to the second victim and shot him in the leg as well.

Both victims later identified Flora as the shooter in photo lineups, along with two other partygoers, prosecutors said.
